The journey to improving your oral health and function often requires more than one step. Many of our patients who need to replace a tooth and align their bite want to know which step comes first.
Is it better to start with Invisalign treatment in Quincy and Norwell or tooth replacement?
Invisalign is a form of “insurance” for your future dental work. If your bite is misaligned, a new crown or bridge may be subjected to uneven pressure, which can lead to premature failure or chipping.

Bite Alignment Balances the Workload
If your teeth are crowded or crooked, certain teeth take on more force during chewing than others. If we place a new restoration into an imbalanced bite, that new tooth might be hit too hard every time you close your mouth. By using Invisalign in Quincy and Norwell first, we distribute the biting force evenly across all your teeth. Proper bite distribution ensures your new replacement tooth isn’t overworked, helping it last for decades.
Avoiding a Fixed Point
Dental implants do not move like natural teeth, since they are inserted into your jawbone. While that makes them very secure and stable, they lack the periodontal ligament that allows for orthodontic movement.
If we place the implant first, we essentially “lock” the surrounding teeth in place, limiting how much we can improve your smile later. Starting with aligners gives us the freedom to move every tooth into its most aesthetic and functional position before we set the permanent piece.
